Certificates of Appreciation from District 93
District 93 instructors presented Education with certificates of appreciation for assisting with their Tech Wars. Eric coordinated with the schools to allow Chris and Dave to be judges for the EMT and CNA student competitions. We are so grateful we were given the opportunity to participate and build relationships with the local schools and students who will be coming through our facilities.
This is the article that was on East Idaho News about the event—featuring our very own Dave in one of the photos! https://www.eastidahonews.com/2021/03/tech-wars-brings-high-school-students-together-with-industry-professionals/
Helpful Information on the Intranet
Did you know you can access information about current best practices and medications by visiting the Pharmacy page on the Intranet?
Just click the “Medical Depts” dropdown from the Intranet and choose “Pharmacy,” and you will see the links as pictured above.
UpToDate is an excellent clinical resource with information on disease processes, skills, and much more. Lexicomp is a helpful drug library that can answer many of the questions medical professionals may have about the medications we give our patients.
Message from IT Security
What is ransomware?
Ransomware is a malware that stealthily gets installed in your PC or mobile device and holds your files or operating system functions for ransom. It restricts you from using your PC or mobile device, and from accessing your files (files are sometimes locked or encrypted), unless you pay the ransom (in exchange for file decryption). Learn more at microsoft.com.
According to Gartner Security, ransomware attacks on US healthcare organizations cost $20.8 billion in 2020.
You are the first line of defense against ransomware. You can make a difference by doing the following:
- Do not open email attachments or click on links from unknown senders.
- Beware of phishing attempts.
- Do not plug in an unknown thumb drive to your computer.
- Practice safe browsing by going to reliable and reputable websites.

Commitment to Excellence
Thanks to everyone that submitted nominations for our Commitment to Excellence award! Say congratulations to the winners and check out all of our honorable mentions!
WINNER: Jenny Wall - Labor & Delivery
We have a SUPERSTAR on our unit. Her name is JENNY WALL. She literally shines! Her smile and excitement is felt with every interaction she has with co-workers and patients. Her many post-partum patients have raved (during management/patient rounding) about the GREAT care Jenny gives. They mention how they all feel like they are her only patient on the unit, even when they know we are very busy. Jenny also has been a ROCK STAR at onboarding new employee’s and ensuring that each new member had a great experience which has helped create a better retention percentage on L&D. She takes the time to explain processes as well as evaluate and observe for understanding. Her many trainees have reported how wonderful of a preceptor she is. She also is one of our teams HCAPS representatives and we appreciate all she does for us!
She is now in 2021 training to be a Labor nurse and we all have full confidence that she will be outstanding in that new role as well.
FIRST RUNNER-UP: Felicia Hall - Pocatello ENT
Felicia Hall is very deserving of this. She currently works full time at the Pocatello ENT clinic. I know she is navigating through additional challenges but you would never know it. She is committed to this job and is currently training our new CMA. The feedback I have received is she is doing great in that task. She is willing to do whatever tasks are asked of her as she was recently asked to change providers which added to her responsibilities. Never once did she complain or oppose this idea. She is very deserving of this.
The last quarter of 2020 was quite challenging in our department due to being down several individuals but needing to continue to perform the same tasks. This meant taking a number of extra shifts, and often on short notice. This team rose to the challenge and performed without complaint, even though this was often at the expense of their work/life balance and personal health.
Gina simply amazes me. Over the past 3 years, she has earned my respect, love, and gratitude. Gina is hands down one of our MVP’s in the business office. Her knowledge and expertise are critical to the insurance denials department, and to the entire business office. She is the glue to our denials team, and we would be truly lost without her daily guidance. Gina has taken the new billing system, the new hospital, new clinics, and the pandemic all in stride. She has led us by example to remain steadfast and positive, especially when times are tough. She is a committed employee. In addition to all those recent hurdles and on top of her normal duties, Gina has personally trained over 20 people in the past 2 years! She handles the constant questions without ever snapping or belittling someone. What an amazing amount of patience she must have! We have all grown in our knowledge because of her everyday efforts. I truly appreciate her!
I nominate Trudy White. She is always smiling and making the office a happier place. She is always courteous and kind to everyone she talks to.
I wanted to give a shout out to Morgan! I am preparing for nursing school and needed some vaccines. Morgan is the similitude of customer service as he got back to me immediately and got me in the next day for vaccines. He went through my paperwork meticulously to make sure I had it all worked out and even did my physical for me to save me time and money. Morgan is also at the front lines of the COVID pandemic and totally kept his cool when receiving several calls, while he was drawing my blood. He never lost his composure, and never lost his smile. Morgan is amazing! Give him a pat on the back and let him know his example is one to emulate.
I would like to nominate Morgan Garriott for the commitment to Excellence award this quarter. He really has gone above and beyond this year with all of the COVID protocol. I have been able to call him with questions and he always gets back to me very quickly. It has been very nice to have him to reach out to for questions about what staff should be doing if they have symptoms during this pandemic. He has definitely been great to work with!
I would like to nominate my boss, Kari Oldham, for the Commitment to Excellence Award. She is the microbiology supervisor for the lab at MVH, and while she is micro specific, she constantly goes above and beyond to help out the entire lab. She does this on a daily basis, without being asked, and is not looking for credit. She is incredibly kind and smart, and does anything and everything she can to help anyone in need. I have not yet met another employee/person more deserving of this award.
(1) I would like to nominate my supervisor, Jessie Labra, for her commitment to excellence in the hospital. Since she took the position last year, we have switched operating systems, opened the new hospital, and tripled the staff in the admissions. She has handled each of those challenges with grace and humor and really cares about our department and the standards of Mountain View Hospital. Especially with the constant changes and updates with COVID, she has worked hard to help all of admissions be prepared.
(2) I’d love to nominate Jessie Labra for the Commitment to Excellence Award because of her spectacular leadership and kindness.
I would like to nominate KC Glorfield in Population Health. She is an amazing manager over our team.
I would like to submit my nomination to Kent Staley and Travis Vance from IT! They are always on the run with Admin and do so much that doesn’t always get recognized. They have my vote on their hard work and dedication to the IT department and team!
I would like to nominate Sarah O’Brien, MV Lab Manager. She goes above and beyond every day. She is a fantastic boss who is always willing to jump in and help where needed. She covers day, night and weekend shifts to keep the lab working smoothly. She always treats everyone with kindness and respect. She works hard to make sure everyone in the lab feels appreciated. She has a positive “can do” attitude that helps makes the lab a great place to work.
(1) I would like to nominate Sarah Hansen the nurse manager of our office. The last 2 weeks she has worked 7-10 days in a row, 12 hour shifts, to keep our clinic open and running since one of our nurses ended up sick in the hospital, and one of our other nurses is sick with COVID. Even during her busy time she was checking in on our other sick nurses and updating the rest of the clinic on how they were doing and recovering. Even during her long stretch of working she remained positive and courteous to patients (even to some patients that, in my opinion didn't deserve it). She often keeps moral up at the office and has been a great asset to our clinic.
(2) I would like to nominate Sarah Hansen from Community Care-Westside for the excellence award. She always goes above and beyond for everyone here. She worked 9 days in a row to cover for nurses that were out with COVID. She always puts us first even when she is dealing with a lot of things personally. She is an amazing example to me of what a leader is. She is in the trenches everyday with all of us running COVID swabs. I can't think of anyone else that fits this award more perfectly then Sarah.
I would like to nominate Dr. Christian Shull. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic he has remained operating at full if not above full patient load. He continues to see his patients and take care of them regardless of his own needs. This includes his own case of COVID 19. While he was out sick he Telehealthed from home and made sure his patients remained top priority receiving the care that they deserved. He is great personality and keeps things light even when they get heavy in our clinic. He is a good person and a great doctor.
