The Beat - Week 3
Quote of the Day
"If you're offered a seat on a rocket ship, don't ask what seat! Just get on." –Sheryl Sandberg
Fun Facts
Anthropologists believe wisdom teeth, or the third set of molars, were the evolutionary answer to our ancestor's early diet of coarse, rough food – like leaves, roots, nuts, and meats – which required more chewing power and resulted in excessive wear of the teeth.

Physicians Immediate Care
In 2006 Physicians Immediate Care was purchased by Dr. Warren Willey and Randy Vawdrey -NP and quickly became a leading urgent care clinic in the Pocatello and Chubbuck area. Dr. Willey and Randy brought an extreme focus towards traditional, comprehensive and holistic health approaches that quickly set the clinic apart from rest. Patient care to them encompassed far more than a “treat them & street them” style. In their quest to provide absolute and lasting healthcare to patients they quickly expanded to create Physicians Optimal Health – a primary care clinic - and Physicians Mental Health Services – a mental and behavioral counseling clinic . These three clinics are pinnacle examples of treating mind, body, and soul. Their revolutionary approach lead to what is now called Physicians Care Centers – 2 locations that offer both urgent and primary options as well as mental health services.
The staff at Physicians Care Centers foster a culture of friendship and empathy. Their immediate kindness towards their patients comes from the respect and affection of their leadership. The clinic manager Charity Johnson, Dr. Willey, and Randy have worked tirelessly to establish a culture which sets procedures that empower each member of the staff to quickly respond and take care of patients needs for the many different situations that are encountered at the clinic. Physicians Immediate Care and Physicians Optimal Health have been rewarded Pocatello’s best medical clinic for many years via the People’s Choice Award issued through the Idaho State Journal.
The staff of Physicians Care Centers is a diverse and extremely talented set of individuals that are united to the cause of improving the accessibility and quality of care to the residents of Southeastern Idaho. You can discover more about each staff member at www.physicianscarecenters.com/about-us/team.

Construction Update
The main entrance of the hospital has been permanently closed until the completion of the new hospital. The new entrance will provide a larger roundabout and covered walkway from the parking garage. We have included some architectural renderings below to show exactly what it will look like when completed. We know this will cause some hurdles for our patients and appreciate your continued commitment to patient care. We are honored with such an amazing team that puts us at the forefront of healthcare in Southeast Idaho.

News From The Lab
The American Red Cross is experiencing constrained supplies of critical blood products and today issued an urgent appeal for blood and platelet donors. While winter is home to festive holidays and celebration, winter can also cause significant reductions in blood donations and inventory levels. Factors such as holiday travel, busy schedules, and cold weather conditions have kept many donors from scheduling blood and platelet donation appointments. Blood collection activities of the American Red Cross and other blood centers have been adversely impacted this season, resulting in lower-than-normal blood and platelet donations and blood drives.
Ensuring an adequate supply for patients all winter long is our highest priority, and we will continue to do all we can to inspire donors to act and give blood. Effective today, the Red Cross augmented its existing recruitment activities by issuing a national media appeal highlighting an immediate need for blood donations and calling on generous blood and platelet donors to give now. This effort will enhance our already scheduled blood drives and recruitment strategies surrounding National Blood Donor Month in January.
We kindly seek your support by asking our hospital partners to share information about the need for blood with your employees and potential donors. A messaging toolkit is available to help you share information about the blood shortage with your colleagues and community. We are confident these measures will prompt swift action and quickly restore our product inventories so that we may more completely meet your needs.
The Red Cross thanks you for your understanding and support during these efforts. Be assured that we are making every effort possible to ensure the blood products you need continue to be available for your patients.
Thank you,
Larry Lecuyer

News From Education
Mandatory annual courses will be assigned in Bridge to all employees January 1, 2019. Although, the pretest was popular it created a great deal of confusion with employees and unnecessary hours to determine completion. Because of this, we have eliminated the pre-assessment and all employees will be required to complete the full course. The Annual courses will be embedded within programs that have a title that begins with “ 2019 Annual”.The programs and courses will be assigned based on job status.
All annual courses will need to be completed by April 30. The due date has been moved up just a bit because we are anticipating switching Learning Management Systems in May of 2019. You can access Bridge via two different avenues:
- Bridge link on the home page of the Intranet
- Or by using this link: http://mountainviewhospital.bridgeapp.com
