Women who are at risk of developing complications during pregnancy are in good hands with the experts at Mountain View Hospital. Our focus is always on the health of you and your growing baby.
Specialized care when you need it most
We are proud to have a maternal-fetal medicine specialist on our team dedicated to caring for women who are navigating complicated pregnancies. Sometimes women know they will face challenges during their pregnancy because of an underlying medical issue or past experiences. Other times, challenges arise unexpectedly for mom or baby and require immediate attention.
No matter the complication, Mountain View’s maternal-fetal medicine specialist is here to help provide women and their babies the best care before, during and immediately following their pregnancy. Maternal-fetal medicine specialists undergo years of additional training to be able to diagnose and develop customized treatment plans for women experiencing high-risk pregnancies. They work closely with their patient’s established OBGYN to make sure they get the best care possible throughout their pregnancy.
High-Risk Pregnancy Care
Proper prenatal care is important for every expectant mom. However, it becomes even more crucial when the mom is at a higher risk of developing complications. Pregnancies are considered high-risk anytime there is a condition that puts the well-being of the mom, baby or both at risk.
A pregnancy may be considered high-risk if you have any of the following:
- Pregnancy with twins or multiples
- History of complications with prior pregnancies
- Older than 35
- Medical conditions that could complicate the pregnancy, such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, blood disease or auto-immune disorders
- High blood pressure or preeclampsia
- History of miscarriage or pregnancy loss
- Possibility of pre-term delivery
- Baby has a genetic condition or defect
- Personal or family history of birth defects
- Personal or family history of uterine or placental abnormalities
Maternal-fetal medicine specialists are experts at navigating challenging pregnancies. If your OBGYN believes you are at a higher risk of experiencing pregnancy complications, ask to be referred to Dr. Spencer. He will work with you and your OBGYN to make sure you and your baby get the care you need.
Patients who would like to see Dr. Spencer will need to obtain a referral from their OBGYN. Our office will call to schedule an appointment after we receive the necessary paperwork from your doctor.
Before your first appointment, please complete the new patient intake form. You can download it below or come to our office 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to complete it. Existing patients should also remember to bring their blood glucose logs to their appointments, if applicable.
